The safety of our residents and team members is a priority during hurricane season and beyond. We proactively prepare for major storms to make sure our residents are informed and ready for any impacts. Here are some important things to know:
Communication
• We will do our best to communicate to you via email prior to major storms in your area.
• To ensure we have your best contact information, please take a minute to update it on the online Resident Portal or FirstKey Homes mobile app. (If you don’t have a Resident Portal account, now would be a good time to set one up using the link above.)
Hurricane Preparedness
• Create a hurricane kit with nonperishable food, bottled water, flashlights, weather radio, batteries, chargers, and pet supplies. Ensure your important documents are safe and that you have any medications needed.
Shutters/Exterior
• Please keep in mind that residents are responsible for sandbags, hurricane shutters, or window boarding. We do not provide or reimburse, but we encourage and welcome residents to consider these precautions. If you choose to do so, it would be best to buy those supplies before storms approach.
• Remember to bring all outside furniture and toys inside the home or garage before a storm hits.
Evacuation Planning
• Identify your evacuation routes and plan multiple options if possible.
Post-Storm
• If you experience any damage to your home, please report it by calling 844.395.3959.
Note: Please do not report storm damage to us online, as storm-related requests are handled differently than standard maintenance requests.
• Our local team members will prioritize inspections based on damages and our ability to get to the home.
• Note that in severe conditions, you may experience delays in local service. We ask that you please not visit the local office during these times, as it may be closed due to safety, power outages, etc. Please be assured that we will still be working, when possible, to support our residents.
Rental Insurance
• Report damages to personal property to your rental insurance provider immediately.
Generator Safety
• Be aware of important safety guidelines before operating a portable generator at your home. Please see the Generator Safety and Best Practices section on our Help Center for details.
