Whether you’re decorating for Christmas, Hanukkah or just the winter season, and you’re looking to branch out from the same-old standard holiday looks, here are a few of the hottest – or should we say coolest? – trends of the season.
While red and green are still the old standbys, many more-modern choices abound. Some of the trendier color palettes for this year include:
- Neon hues and bright colors
- Jewel tones (think deep, rich colors like sapphire, emerald, ruby, etc., like in the picture at right)
- Black & white
Decorative wreaths have a long history with roots in ancient Europe, and they became tied to the Christmas season in 16th century Germany. Today’s wreaths go far beyond the traditional evergreens, like these on-trend options:
- Succulent wreaths – Living succulent plants are placed on a ring of moss/soil for a decidedly different display.
- Pompom wreaths – Tap into some retro flair with these colorful and certainly untraditional creations; available in stores, or go DIY if you’re feeling crafty.
For Christmas-specific decorating, the tree is always the star. But today, a Christmas tree isn’t always an actual tree, whether living or artificial. Creative alternatives include tree-shaped cutouts, wall decals, lighted/decorated triangular (and thus Christmas tree-shaped) DIY frameworks, and more.
Ornaments & Decor
It’s not just colored glass balls, Santa figurines and elves on shelves these days. All sorts of less-traditional themes are being incorporated into holiday decorating. Some of the more popular include:
- Woodland creatures
And if a Christmas unicorn isn’t trendy, then we don’t know what is!
So no matter what you’re celebrating this holiday season – whether religious or simply the company of family and friends – decorations can add to the merriment. Why not spruce up your usual trimmings with something new to keep it feeling fun and fresh?
